| BENEFITS OF GREEK LIFE |
| All Pages |
The benefits of joining any sorority are many and varied. That’s not to say Greek life is for everyone (it’s not; it’s a choice just as it’s a choice to join any other kind of organization). It’s also not to say that you can’t get the same results by going at it alone or joining some other kind of organization (many can and do!). A sorority can offer your daughter lifelong relationships and a undergraduate and graduate support system that has been statistically proven to assist in their success. She will receive a life-long bond and the support of women from all walks of life. From fellow undergraduates, to mothers, to full time professionals, Chi Upsilon Sigma is comprised of various women which can provide the professional or personal support your child may need both in school and beyond.
Another benefit that your daughter will receive while in school is that she will be mentored by older students and alumnae. They will help her during her time in college with advice on how to best manager her time. They also offer her a network of women that she can look to when she is ready to intern with companies and looking to add experience to her resume. Additionally, if your daughter chooses to hold some sort of officer role within the organization, it will definitely help with her self-confidence and foster leadership skills within her that may go underdeveloped during her college career. CUS gives each young woman the chance to impact her campus. And those real life skills you can’t always get in the classroom.
CUS believes a well-rounded involved student, makes a better sister; one that will continue her involvement post graduation and help to mentor younger students. CUS enhances the average student, it doesn’t change them as a person, it just becomes another aspect of who they are.
Here are some of the key benefits of Chi Upsilon Sigma
Leadership
Personal Development - Various opportunities and networks for professional and personal development and hands-on opportunities to practice leadership skills.
Teamwork - From undergraduate chapter requirements to alumnae involvement, the opportunities to work in teams are endless.
Scholarship
“Wisdom through Education” - Our motto is something we hold every member accountable for. In order to be an active member, a GPA requirement must be met. We offer various scholastic resources to help members achieve/surpass their academic goals, many programs are also in place to help sisters struggling to meet grade requirements.
Academic Excellence - All Chi Upsilon Sigma sisters are required to achieve academic excellence. We understand that your daughter did not come to college to join an organization therefore academic excellence is our number one priority.
Service
Social Responsibility - In addition to scholastic programming, Chi Upsilon Sigma sisters participate in philanthropic endeavors nationwide. Each chapter hosts events about their own personal chapter philanthropy. They also host events about our National Philanthropy ("I Have a Dream Foundation") and yearly community service projects. We also encourage sisters to get involved on an individual basis. These charitable activities not only provide valuable opportunities for interaction with the community, but also establish a basis for philanthropic behavior in the future. National surveys have found that Greek members are more likely to volunteer during adulthood. Last year alone, our sisters raised more than $5,000.
Community Projects - We encourage our members to get involved in their campuses and the community. Every year, our sisters complete hundreds of hours of community service projects.
Sisterhood
Support System - Being part of a sorority will provide your daughter with a support system she can count on for the rest of her life. Our sisters believe that the commitment to Chi Upsilon Sigma is a lifelong one. During our undergraduate careers our sisters share their cultures, traditions and similar customs. Consistent with the concept of the word "sister," we help each other reach our goals and most importantly, graduate from our respective universities.
Family - Over the years, many sisters express that Chi Upsilon Sigma has become a "home away from home."
Network
Career Opportunities - The network that sisters build within Chi Upsilon Sigma is invaluable. Many career opportunities are available through interaction with alumnae. In addition to this network, Chi Upsilon Sigma has established professional relationships with other Latino Greeks and organizations such as Teach for America that offer career opportunities to our members.
