FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 18, 2011 | 6:00 PM

Every school day, 46children are diagnosed with cancer.  As one can imagine, cancer treatmentis not a quick or easy process, and these children spend from weeks to monthsat a time in the hospital as they undergo chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and other procedures. They are often unable to attend school andparticipate in many childhood activities. For a large portion of time duringtheir treatment, these children are usually in their pajamas.

In honor of WorldCancer Day, the Great Plains region of Corazones Unidos Siempre ChiUpsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated is hosting “PJamminFor Kids With Cancer" on Friday February 4, 2011. This event is a wayfor businesses and schools to show support by paying a minimum of $1 perparticipant in exchange for the ability to wear pajamas to school or work for aday. While this is a fun way to raise money, it's also a symbolic way to showsupport for the children who have no choice about whether or not they have tobe in their pajamas all the time. Chi Upsilon Sigma joins several other schoolsand businesses across the United States and dozens of organizations across theglobe in observance of World Cancer Day, an event sponsored by the Union forInternational Cancer Control (UICC).  The UICC is composed of over 300cancer-related organizations in 100 countries.

All money raised by “PJamminFor Kids With Cancer" will be donated toward the programs and servicesof the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO), which has beenproviding comprehensive books to children with cancer of all ages since 1970,and the books are given free to all requesting them from across the country.
